Today was a terrific holiday.
We began by sleeping in... always a good way to start the day.
Then we went to the state Arts & Crafts Festival in Ripley. We got to see many great pieces of handiwork and purchased several culinary delights. Jake got a helium balloon, and we fed the animals in the petting zoo. I even fed a Llama trying to overcome the childhood trauma when one spit in my eye. This time I came prepared and he/she ate the food right out of my hand.
The highlight though was definitely Jake's first pony ride. He was reluctant at first, but once he climbed aboard his trusty steed he had a great time. It was awesome seeing my baby become a boy right before my eyes.
After the Festival and a fine nap on the way to Charleston, we went to the Charleston Alley Cats game. Jake got to see Al "E" Cat and talk baseball with the mascot between innings. The Alley Cats won 4-0 in a quick 2 hour game that was just right for Jake and was followed by a terrific Fire Works display. Jake thought that was pretty cool too. On another note, I found it amusing that the plastic American flags that were distributed at the game were marked "Made in China".
After the game we finished the day by stuffing ourselves even more at Carol's favorite place for wings...
All in all it was a great day. One that made me truly proud and thankful to be an American.
